Man this world of trucking is CRAZY. People do not stop to think about what drivers do out there, like having to get out of bed and walk across the parking lot in negative degree weather to use the restroom. Or where to get decent food, healthy food. Exercise is a lot of effort as the areas drivers can park are not exactly fun to walk around. Just one night out and I am all the more in awe of what you drivers do!
I did see an accident on the roadside, an suv flipped and the police crew trying to pull the driver out.
Hardest part still is food and bathroom breaks. I do not want to disrupt her driving schedule, but I drink a lot of water and have to pee more than Allie. One more thing I never thought about, drivers staying hydrated. I bet a lot of the health issues in trucking are related to dehydration.
Food is rough because the best option is Wall Mart. I am actually eating very "healthy" just not luxury healthy. Raw fruits and veggies galore. It is hard not to break down and buy the junk food to snack on all day.
I worked most of the day today, so that was cool. Calling drivers from the truck is kind of fun. I have also started to find little ways to work out. I am determined to stay in shape despite the lack of resources
I was excited to see the "Potato King" truck in Miles City, MT then again in who knows where we are MN! A little disappointed to learn that he was hauling dairy. His shirt and truck had POTATO KING all over, how could he have dairy????
In an attempt to let people know what it is like for over the road drivers, I am heading out with Jim Palmer Trucking driver Allie Knight.
